Soto is a Geologist and Master of Science with over 12 years of experience in areas such as environmental geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry and environmental forensics applied to the mining industry. She has experience in the evaluation and modelling of acid mine drainage, environmental evaluation of massive mine waste and monitoring and analysis of hydrogeochemical and isotopic data. She has led several innovation projects like GEOTEST (In Situ Technological Tool for the Prediction of Acid Mine Drainage) and Mining Footprint (measurement of the socio-environmental footprint of a minesite). During the years 2013 to 2016 she led the public-private initiative that allowed the development of criteria and guidelines for the chemical stability of mining operations for closure, for the National Service of Geology and Mining, which concluded in the publication of 3 documents, the most relevant being the “Methodological Guide for the Chemical Stability of Mines and Mining Facilities (2015). She currently works as a Senior Geochemist and Project Manager in the Hydrogeochemistry Area of WSP Consulting Chile, executing and managing geochemical and hydrogeochemical projects for national and international mining companies, like Codelco, Minera Los Pelambres, Teck Carmen de Andacollo, Colombian Natural Resources, among others.
